Thanks to the campus agreement between the universities and Microsoft, members of the University of Lucerne (Uni Luzern) and the Central and University Library Lucerne (ZHB) can use the various applications from the Microsoft 365 (M365) range, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Teams, free of charge and install them on up to five devices (Windows, macOS, mobile devices with iOS, iPadOS, Android).
All employees and students of the University of Lucerne and employees of the ZHB who have a user account and an e-mail address are entitled to use the service. Free use is conditional on active employment or active study at the University of Lucerne or active employment at the ZHB.
When employees leave or students de-register, access to the M365 Campus license usually ends automatically. It is important that employees and students back up all data stored on M365 (OneDrive, etc.) in good time before leaving the University of Lucerne or the ZHB in order to prevent the loss of information. However, Office 365 remains installed on the private devices. After approximately 30 days without a valid license, Office 365 falls into a so-called reduced function mode. In this mode, no documents can be edited or created. To regain full functionality, a separate license must be purchased.
All employees and students of the University of Lucerne as well as employees of the Central and University Library of Lucerne who have a user account and an e-mail address are entitled to subscribe.
M365 validity period
The free use is tied to active employment or active study at the University of Lucerne or active employment at the ZHB and expires automatically upon withdrawal or exmatriculation.
Before the license is no longer valid, all data stored on M365 (OneDrive etc.) should be transferred to a new storage location in good time. If the M365 applications are to be used further, the person leaving must purchase his or her own M365 license.
Installation on private devices
The Campus License may only be installed on private devices belonging to authorized users. Installation on devices owned by other family members, acquaintances, friends or another company, etc. is not permitted.
Installation on notebooks and desktops of the University of Lucerne and the Lucerne ZHB
M365 is installed and managed centrally by IT Services on devices at the University of Lucerne and the ZHB. Manual installation by employees on these devices is not permitted.
The Helpdesk does not provide support services for installation and application problems with M365 on private devices.
The M365 license may be used exclusively for education, teaching and research purposes as well as for purposes of the University of Lucerne and the ZHB. It is not permitted to use M365 for commercial purposes. Users are responsible for the correct use of the license and compliance with the license terms.
