More flexibility for university notebook users: New self-service solution for Windows devices at the University of Lucerne and the ZHB.

As a user of a managed Windows device at the University of Lucerne or the ZHB, you can now install programs from a selected list of software products yourself. The new Symantec Software Portal allows you to customize your software configuration. You can also perform updates according to your own schedule.

In preparation for the rollout of Windows 11, the Symantec Software Portal has been rolled out on all Windows devices at the University of Lucerne. This portal allows employees to install software independently. Since most of the software listed in the portal is freeware or campus-licensed software, it only takes a few minutes from request to installation. For those programs for which a limited number of licenses are available or which are intended for a specific group of people, approval by IT Services is required. The portal is now available and will be updated on an ongoing basis.

Opening the Software Portal

The Symantec Software Portal can be opened in 3 ways:

  • Double-click the desktop icon «Symantec Software Portal» ( A yellow and black logo AI-generated content may be incorrect. )
  • Right-click on the «Symantec Management Agent» icon in the taskbar and select «Software Portal» from the context menu
  • Click on the program menu «Symantec» → «Symantec Software Portal»

The default browser will then open and – if necessary – a login prompt will be displayed in which the user name and UNET password must be entered.

The available software installations are then displayed:

Please note: The view of available software packages and the corresponding images may change.
