eduroam (WLAN)
eduroam (EDUcation ROAMing) is a worldwide network that enables employees and students to access the Internet on a university campus.
Using eduroam, it is possible to connect to the internet with smartphones, tablets or notebooks and the access data of the University of Lucerne.
Not only most universities and research institutions in Europe are now part of eduroam, but also organisations from the USA, Canada and the Asia-Pacific region. Each participating organisation provides its own WLAN infrastructure for this purpose. Authentication takes place in each user's home organisation via Radius servers.
The differentiation of user IDs takes place via a so-called realm. When logging in to eduroam, the realm is appended to the user name.
For employees of the University of Lucerne, the realm or ending is "@unet.unilu.ch" and for students "@studnet.unilu.ch".
The login enquiry is then automatically forwarded to the correct Radius server. In Switzerland, SWITCH coordinates eduroam activities for all universities.
Further information on eduroam can be found at https://eduroam.org/
Installation with the "eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool" (CAT)
We recommend installation with the CAT tools. These are available for all common operating systems. To install eduroam on Android, you can use the "geteduroam" application (SURF B.V.) from the "Google Play" store.
