Passwords captured by a phishing attack, as well as weak and reused passwords, are the most common cause of successful cyberattacks. To prevent this, the password can be additionally secured by using two- or multi-factor authentication (Two-Step Login / 2FA / MFA). This involves adding one or more independent factors to the password entered for identification, thus providing a high level of protection against unauthorized access to services, software and data.

The personal identity SWITCH edu-ID can also be enhanced with a two-step login.

As of March 1, 2023, the learning management system OLAT can only be accessed with a SWITCH edu-ID with an active Two-Step login. In order to continue accessing OLAT, you have to set up the two-step login for your SWITCH edu-ID in advance.
